DLPENCIL: Victorian Pencil Box

This charming wooden pencil box is from the Victorian era . It features several layers or "decks". When you slide the bottom half off, it has three compartments for pencils, pens, paint brushes, etc. The box came to me with the items and look like they date from the same era, if not original to the box. There is a pen, and something like a pencil, wrapped in decorated paper. I cannot get it to mark or write, however. The very top of the box slides off to show three pencils, but they no longer mark. The lid has a lovely decorated top. The box measures 9~1/4" X 2" X 1~1/4". The box has been used and has some marring , scratches, some loss of color on decorative top, and some splintered loss of wood, mostly around the seams where the box slides. Please view all my photos. An excellent gift for an artist friend or associate. Lovely to display with antique toys, dolls and bears, or in an office. Not perfect, but delightful with the antique accessories which come with it.
