VC8014SO: Circa 1900 Blocks
This is an outstanding set of antique wooden, paper covered alphabet blocks. They have lithographed pictures on 4 surfaces of each block. When stacked properly, on one end is picture of an elephant at the circus, and the other side features giraffes in the wild. These are from my personal collection, but I never displayed them. They have been packed away for about 15 years and this is the first time I have offered them for sale. Colors are still bright and the blocks are in great condition with very little wear. Each block measures 4" X 2" X 3/4". As I examine each block, condition issues include some wrinkles or bubbles under the paper, as the pictures were applied to blocks--VERY minor and very few blocks. Some of the edges may be missing teeny bits of color along the very edges, where they would have been handled or stacked. But, once again, very minor. I would say the set is excellent. Some tiny faint spots on some which may rub off with your finger. There are 12 blocks. Each block has an alphabet letter and a picture, such as mother cat knitting as her kittens read storybooks, papa bear (or cat) taking junior to school, carrying his books. A cat and mouse with boxing gloves, ready to duke it out, One side of the blocks deal with letters A through M. On the opposite sides, letters N-Z. Very charming and unusual!
