HL454SO: WW1 Patriotic Silk Envelope
We've never seen another like it! Condition is excellent for the age! The silk flag has 42 stars. A hankie holder or lingerie holder, the top of the silk flag is open, where one might tuck away a treasure--perhaps even love letters from a soldier far away. The inner "lid" or flag shows a soldier and young woman with this sentiment, "When the Gold Sun is sinking, And your mind from troubles free, While of other you are thinking, Will you sometimes think of Me? Silk ivory and yellow braid accents the envelope, as well as a double scalloped trim which encircles the perimeter. Back is solid red, while the front is accented with the silk braid (which resembles military braid) and and embroidered panel which reads To my Friend. The entire envelope is padded for cushion and measures 10" X 7" when closed. Some melting just beginning to surface near the bottom edge on the top flap. Tiny pins in the braid--I have never removed them, so do not know if they are important to the construction of these sweet treasure. Very sweet and unusual. A nice early piece, great displayed with military items or patriotic items. Please click here to view additional magnified photos and click on your BACK button in your browser to return to this page.
