HL517GC: Clockwork Walker/Blue!

This outstanding Father Christmas dates circa 1901 and originates from Germany. He is marked on the bottom of his wooden base Made in Germany. His condition is remarkable and he certainly would be a lovely addition to an antique collection of holiday items and Father Christmas figures. This rare jewel of a Santa is dressed in his original and very rare blue wool felt coat, accented with ivory cuffs and collar, with an ivory band which travels down the front of his coat and along the hemline. His coat is also accented with the original sparkling mica flakes. Composition hand painted hands and face with excellent detailing. Snowy white real fur beard. He carries on his back a basket of raffia, also accented with mica "snow". The basket has worn in some areas and is a little fragile or brittle, but still in very good condition, considering the age of this fellow. He hold his original dark green goose feather sprig with tiny red berry. He has his original key at the side and when wound, he travels about on his original metal wheels. He stands about 10.5" tall. He is considered a "clockwork walker" and is certainly one of the finest examples we have had...a FABULOUS Santa for the serious collector!
