VCK26G: Old King Cole Santa
This vintage Santa stands an impressive 38" tall. Meant to be displayed in a store window or theater, The Old King Cole Company started in the 1800s and made papier mache large figures to herald in certain holidays or movies. This santa is a rare figure and dates 1915-1930 . I'm sure he caught the attention of many shoppers as they passed by. Originally he would have been on a stand or platform. He has a rustic appearance, rather than a polished look. Painted red cap with emerald green painted trim. Red cape, accented with green collar. Molded hands, belt, etc. Modeling of his face is very deep and pronounced. Painted facial features, painted beard, clothing and boots. Side glancing eyes with black pupils. He has considerable wear including flaking, chipping to papier mache, wear to paint overall, repair or tear to a fold in his coat in back, cracking and crazing to elbow. He will stand on his own. Original sticker inside Santa, near feet reads Old King Cole, papier mache company. Canton Ohio USA. If you are looking for a large Santa with a great character face, despite the wear sustained over the years, he is highly desirable and will be an impressive asset to your collection! Our consignor indicated he can do some restoration, if desired, but you would want to keep the worn, rustic appearance, as that is his appeal! I sell vintage and antique items with a history; oftentimes items may show wear from a former life. I always try to note any serious condition issues. Please contact me if you have additional questions regarding the condition of the item. If you are seeking a collectible which looks brand new please reconsider purchasing. Our items are as described, but descriptions are subjective, after all. I have additional photos, please ask to see those. Estimated domestic shipping $150. Will not ship internationally due to size.
