VCK30G: Santa in Green
This is a fabulous large early German candy container dressed in an emerald green felt coat with hood. The coat also has a collar. Fluffy offwhite trim accents his sleeves, collar, hood, and the panel down the front. He stands an impressive 20" tall! Santa originates from an experienced holiday collector's collection. Papier mache is in excellent condition with glossy finish intact. Painted facial features, with wrinkles, blushed cheeks and nose. In one hand he carries a small goosefeather tree accented with ornaments and a small candle. Attached by twine, he also carries a large wicker basket to be filled with toys, ornaments, etc. The basket is empty at this point. Papiermache up to elbow area, then wire. Base is wood and painted black, boots are painted black. Basket and boots and base are accented with mica, for sparkle. He separates into two pieces, revealing a small area where one can hide Christmas treasures and candies. The black tube which separates in is good condition, with a few small holes in bottom of the container connection to his boots. One cannot see this when Santa is displayed. The underside of the wooden base has two flannel panels to prevent scuffing or hold Santa more securely in place,.. Please view all my photos and ask for more. Photos are considered part of my description and probably do a better job in noting any flaws or wear. Fantastic and unusual Father Christmas. Circa 1920s-1930s. Believed to have been a candy container like those sold from FAO Schwartz toy store at this time. Please email me for additional photos.
