SEO328: Carved Shell Cameo  This stunning antique cameo brooch or pin is carved shell, the center figure is white with great details in the face, clothing and ringlets in hair. The shell color is hazel. Set in sterling silver, the metal has aged to a warm colored patina with some darkening. The shell cameo is encircled with a setting resembling a rope or twist. Early C clasp in the back. Tarnish to pin. The cameo, measuring 1~3/8 ", measuring north to south. I have pictured the inside of the ring of setting. there is some build up of dust which can probably be polished clean. Some minor discoloration , near the pin setting, I have gently tried to scratch off, but I think will some patience and skill, can also be cleaned off. A beautiful early cameo, with some aging and darkening of the setting, giving the cameo a true antique appearance.
