VC7859GC: 1880s Silk Dress  This outstanding antique dress for a child is in superb condition, all original, dating around 1880s. It is very ornate and elaborate and consists of two pieces, the top and skirt. I have displayed it on an antique mannequin which is child size, but the top does not quite close, as you can see in some of the photos, as the mannequin is a bit "barrel chested". The two pieces together measure 32.5" long, from shoulder to end of hem (this is with the top being displayed over a portion of the skirt.) Sleeve length is approximately 16" long and accented with lovely lace embellishments at cuffs. The bodice has ruching, as does the skirt. The very bottom of the hemline is pleated. Matching antique lace also embellishes the hemline. Portions of the interior are lined with the toffee colored glazed cotton so many Victorian clothing items are lined with...there are hook and eye closures. There is a bustle in the back, accented with a large plum colored silk bow. The dress is made of two different hues plum, one a little less glossy in appearance. Overall, splendid workmanship, excellent detailing, delightful accents and outstanding condition. There are just a few areas of lace which have darkened and I have tried to photograph these areas. I have many photos--please view other photos at the link below. Skirt measures 22" in front. Waist is 22" around. Shoulder width in back is 10". Museum quality . Would display beautifully with other antique dolls, clothing and accessories. This is the finest silk elaborate dress dating from the Victorian era we have seen! You will LOVE it.
