VC632GC: Victorian Bead Work

This outstanding black silk shirtwaist dates around the 1870s-1880s. It is made of black silk and is lined with wonderful Victorian cocoa colored cotton. It also retains its original stays. The shirtwaist is extensively decorated with panels of silk ruching almost resembling rosettes. These panels travel from the shoulders to the pointed hem in front and there is also a panel which travels down from the neck. The front is heavily accented with intricate beadwork and the back also features heavy beadwork. There are some areas along the tassels or dangles in back, where some beads are missing, but I would say 99.9 of the entire beadwork is intact. There is a small split to the silk along the crease or seam of one inner sleeve which measures about 3/4" long. Overall condition is very lovely. Sleeve length is 22". Width across the back is 14".
