Fanny Elssler: The Dancer of Paris

Fanny Elssler
Fanny Elssler was one of the most celebrated names in ballet history. She was born in Austria in 1810 and debuted for the Paris Opera in 1833, dancing the leading role in Jean Coralli's La Tempete. In 1840 she embarked on a tour of the United States that stretched from the planned three months to two years. She continued to dance throughout Europe until her retirement in 1851.
